Compassionate, evidence-based care for children, parents, and couples navigating life’s most tender moments

I’m Dr. Karolina Grotkowski Reed, a licensed clinical psychologist in California and Illinois who specializes in early childhood mental health, trauma, parenting, and couples therapy. My work centers on helping individuals and families feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow — especially in moments that feel overwhelming or uncertain.

As the daughter of Polish immigrants and a first-generation high school and college graduate, I bring a deep appreciation for the complexities of cultural identity, intergenerational dynamics, and the resilience that often emerges from navigating multiple worlds. I’m fluent in Polish and have a nuanced understanding of the language, culture, and values that shape the Polish immigrant experience — a perspective that informs my work with families from a range of backgrounds.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting families in a range of settings, from NICUs and schools to outpatient clinics and community centers. I completed my postdoctoral fellowship in Early Childhood and Integrated Care at UCLA and my predoctoral internship at Duke University Medical Center, with a specialization in trauma-focused treatment for children and adolescents.

I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Whether I’m working with a new parent adjusting to life postpartum, a couple feeling disconnected, or a child navigating big emotions after a traumatic experience, I meet each client with warmth, curiosity, and a deep respect for their lived experience.

In addition to my clinical work, I’ve presented nationally on trauma-informed care in pediatric and perinatal settings and contributed to research on relationships, emotion regulation, and health. My academic background includes a PhD in Clinical Psychology and a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Rosalind Franklin University, as well as a BS in Neuroscience from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Outside the therapy room, I find joy in time with my family (including a very expressive dog), reading across genres, and creating moments of calm in a fast-moving world.
